Learning Strategies tutoring provides students support in developing their skills as learners. Through one-on-one appointments, group workshops, and a Canvas resource site, students gain strategies for managing university-level learning, achieve greater insight into how they best learn, and develop a growth mindset, which research shows improve students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities for success.
Why do students utilize Learning Strategists?
- "I like the accountability the meetings give. If I screw up my planning for a week I then have to tell someone about it so that is a good motivator. I knew most of the recommended skills going in but reviewing them has helped me stick to using them." - LS Participant
- "These sessions allowed me to better organize myself and gave me the skills to actually understand what I needed to effectively engage with the course materials. I actually feel like I'm getting something out of my studying." - LS Participant
- "[The Learning Strategist] has been phenomenal. [The Learning Strategist] has helped me take control of a schedule that has always been difficult for me to keep hold of. Their suggestions have made me focus on the day by day tasks but also to think in weekly terms so I don't get overwhelmed. In 4 years at UCSD I have never felt more in control of my classes." - LS Participant
