Learning Strategies

During the 2020 - 2021 academic year, the Academic Achievement Hub (AAH) offers Learning Strategies Tutoring to all UC San Diego undergraduate students. In 2019 - 2020 academic year, 241 students participated in and contributed to a total of 319 visits in this program.

Learning Strategies tutoring provides students support in developing their skills as learners. Through one-on-one appointments and a Canvas resource site, students gain strategies for managing university-level learning, achieve greater insight into how they best learn, and develop a growth mindset, which research shows improves students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities for success.

Why do students utilize Learning Strategists?

  • "I really liked learning about the Study Cycle, while I was doing some of the steps that are part of the cycle, I wasn't doing all of them. Now that I am aware of what I am missing in my study cycle, I know what steps to implement in order to enhance my learning and retention."
  • "Without [the Learning Strategist], I literally would not have had the confidence in myself to study hard for my finals because I was just that unmotivated and so full of doubt. [The Learning Strategist] showed me Bloom’s taxonomy, reminded me of reviewing my notes the same day of watching the lecture, and other really great habits when it came to actual efficient note-taking, and time management too!"
  • "These sessions allowed me to better organize myself and gave me the skills to actually understand what I needed to effectively engage with the course materials. I actually feel like I'm getting something out of my studying."
