If you do not have an appointment, please see our Make an Appointment tab.

Fill Out The “Notes” Section

  • Once you pick your desired appointment time:
  • Please fill out the Notes section before clicking “Save” to book your appointment.
  • This helps your Content Tutor better anticipate the support you will need during your tutoring session.
  • Taking some time to reflect on what topics you’d like to focus on:
    • Will help you better gauge your understanding in the course.
    • Will help you set a plan for how many sessions would be best to support your needs.

Bring In Specific Questions

  • Preparing specific questions for your session:
    • Helps you reflect beforehand and better understand what areas you need assistance in, so you can prioritize these during your session.
    • Helps you and your Content Tutor plan an efficient session, deciding how much time is best to allocate to each of your questions/practice problems.

Bring Screenshots Of Practice Problems

  • These can include:
    • Online homework problem.
    • Example problems from notes
    • Graded and returned midterm questions you would like to review.
    • And more!
  • Preparing screenshots beforehand:
  • Will avoid delays and allow for you and your Content Tutor to dive right into content.
  • Allows your Content Tutor to easily annotate and work through the problem with you more efficiently!

Arrive On Time To Your Appointment

  • If you need a reminder, please refer to the appointment confirmation email sent to your after booking.
    • Please be mindful of the appointment times you choose.
    • Appointments that are not attended as marked as missed. Students with three "missed" marks will receive a temporary hold from making appointments. If you have a hold and would like to be reinstated, please email us at aah@ucsd.edu.

Come In Early And Often

  • We open on Week 2 of every quarter! You can book. To check what our hours and courses we support for this quarter.
  1. Get Ahead of Challenges
    • By coming in early in the quarter, you can establish a strong foundation before coursework becomes more complex. This proactive approach allows you to clarify any initial uncertainties and grasp core concepts that often serve as the building blocks for the rest of your course.
  2. Prevent Falling Behind
    • Early engagement helps you stay ahead of the material and prevents last-minute scrambles before exams or deadlines. Frequent visits ensure you’re consistently reviewing and understanding material.
  3. Build Confidence
    • Our goal is to make you more confident in your course! Regularly seeking support can reduce academic anxiety and help you feel empowered in your abilities to participate in class, complete assignments, and tackle your exams!

Use Your Mic And Camera During Online Sessions

Make sure you take your appointment in a space where you can have your camera and microphone on.

  • We enjoy getting to know our students! Being able to engage with you online in a similar way as we would in person helps us better build a community.
  • Clear communication leads to engaging tutoring sessions!
  • Seeing and hearing from you will better help your Content Tutor gauge for your understanding during the session.

Be Prepared To Actively Participate

Your Content Tutor will work alongside you to solve your practice problems/address your questions.

  • We ask for your willingness to actively participate during your tutoring session. This may include:
    • Answering your tutor’s guiding questions
    • Independently attempting practice problems
    • Asking any additional questions that come to mind
  • Studies show that actively participating in the learning process helps students build connections between course topics and gain a greater understanding of the material!
  • We hope to prepare you to independently tackle your course content when you are not with a Content Tutor!

Be Prepared To Work Independently

  • Your tutor will offer you times to work independently throughout your session.
  • Working independently provides you the opportunity to:
    • Practice concepts that you went over earlier in the session.
    • Help you better identify the areas where you are getting stuck.
    • Be productive in a safe space!
    • Come up with new questions you didn't have before.
    • Provide time back to your tutor, so they can support the other students they are helping.
